The
overall learning intention for your students in using this website
resource is to be able to show an understanding of how individuals can
make a difference in society. |
The objectives for you, as a teacher, in using this website are: |
- to make social studies relevant for your students;
- to focus on examples of and the value in seeking social justice and human rights in society;
- to participate in professional learning
throughout this resource and to collaborate with other teachers about
students’ work;
- to clarify your intentions for student learning;
- to identify and clarify learning strategies in
collaboration with your students, using the content of the activity to
focus on the learning intention and aligning it with:
- – your students’ needs (by, for example, valuing their diverse contributions)
- – the issues that your students have (that is, what they already know and have opinions about)
- – your students’ interests (that is, what will engage them);
- to take iterative steps to support your students’ learning
(for example, planning and modifying activities, negotiating outcomes
to cater for the needs of your students, and identifying lateral
pathways your students might take);
- to strengthen aspects of essential learning about New Zealand society in social studies teaching;
- to contribute to effective teaching and learning practices in social studies.
