This Act provided for twelve months’ unpaid leave for women who had been with the same employer for a specific time on the birth or adoption of a child. During this period the employer was required to keep the position available for her return. Provision was also made for the father to take leave at the time of birth. Subsequently, provision was made for parental leave, where the parents could share the period of time out of the workforce.
