The League was formed in recognition of the influence of women in their homes. It inspired Màori women to acknowledge their wisdom, fortitude, and courage, and awareness of spiritual and moral values. The League gave a framework for them to work together to challenge government policies in areas of social need and justice, to improve the conditions of Màori families and to promote the revival of language and culture.
