One of the shortest statutes on the books, this extremely significant act has only two sections. The first authorises the use of its short title, and the second states that “a woman shall not be disqualified by sex or marriage from being elected as a member of the House of Representatives, or from sitting and voting as a member thereof, anything to the contrary in the Legislative Act 1908, or in any other Act notwithstanding”. A single sentence effectively repealed years of discrimination.
